Oh man.

I just was looking at

hermionesviolin's journal. Her icon of Buffy with the text "So I will walk through the fire, I want the fire back" reminded me how shiver-inducing good Buffy has been in the past, and how horredously offensive and badly done it is this season. It seriously pains me to watch, I didn't even make it through the entire episode last week, leaving me convinced that Giles was The First. Watching it now is like waking up with the entire world replaced by pods. They look the same, they sound the same, but DAMMIT! It's just not them anymore!

Aw, while the past few episodes had felt like killing time before sweeps (though i loved last week's episode) i've been overall happy with this season (though certainly it's flawed). I'm curious as to why you think this season is so horrendous.

Agreed. I think this season is actually one of the strongest of late -- certainly there are some weaker episodes, but that's every season. Maybe of the episodes have started off in a direction I hated, but resolved themselves in these amazing and smart ways (e.g. the Dawn as a potential slayer episiode).
