None of the lanterns caught fire on illumination night, at least not while I was there. The other Sarah and Pickles and I wandered through the plant house and around campus. During the whole I saw several lovely alums, from people I knew first year to last year's HR. Then pizza and domino's, followed by buffy and packing. We made some real headway, it still looks enough like I live here that I won't freak out, but progress has been made. I'm also committing myself to ruthlessly divesting myself of my possessions so that I can get the hell out of here without filling my room at home up with crap. I'm so relieved that my bed will have a home this summer -- L & S will take it to New York, then bring it back in the fall. I'll fetch it to take to DC or Boston or wherever my wonderful job with health benefits is, along with a few other items that I don't want to have to store this summer. Many a piece of useable crap will be donated to whoever wants it. Case in point: the shelves the engineer fixed for me so that they don't fall, but seriously I'm sick of staring at them and would prefer 2x4s on cinder blocks if it comes to that.

Today I wore a white suit a lot. Tomorrow I graduate, and then there will be sushi. We went to Jake's today for lunch and I ate two giant dishes. We had a very light dinner at the chapel with Dr. Carr and Fr. O'B, following a really touching mass where Dr. Carr said wonderful things about me and gave me a book and we both cried. Just now I ate pizza and cinnasticks, and i don't know if i can eat brunch tomorrow. But oh, there will be sushi, and I will be eating that.

The other Sarah deserves a special commendation, because she spent the majority of the ivy day parade hanging out with my parents and sisters. Also, Connie and I looked like lesbians in wedding suits. The consultant and I have the same jacket from H&M.

The last week has been crazy, stressful, emotionally and physically exhausting, and I will miss Smith but I need to leave now. Roadtrip? Yes please!

I graduated.

My family took up an entire pew in the commencement mass yesterday, and today they stood and waved their arms every time I was in sight. They screamed when I got my diploma, and we blocked traffic for several minutes taking pictures in all sorts of combinations. My video camera was present, and the current tape now has footage of both my high school and college graduations, with brief footage of moving into the house in Indiana in between.

Next: festivities with Jess, dinner with the other Sarah and my family, and then packing.

Tomorrow: New Hampshire, Friday: New York, Monday: DC, Thursday: Greensboro, Monday, Indiana.

I have mortar hair. Time for a shower.
