I just saw my high school history teacher walking with his class somewhere - probably to get ice cream, because he would indeed do that on occasion, when not giving us atrociously hard quizzes. I yelled to him, because from 5 feet what are the chances someone won't hear that? Well, in his case, quite good. I had forgotten that he's a bit hard of hearing. His class heard me, though, and giggled as I called to him and he walked blithly onward. In some sort of effort to save my dignity I said "Man, that's cold!" Before I realized that I was in fact yelling to a man who was ignoring me in front of thirty sixteen year olds, and that my dignity should just be let to die in peace.

Mercifully, it seems that adults are immune to outright mocking. I recall having to joke quietly about elders and betters at that age, but I guess I didn't realize I'd reached the not-so-esteemed category of adulthood as defined by teenagers. Because I'm still embarassed in front of cool high school kids - I guess adulthood only goes so far.
