I'm posting an email I got from my friend Marian (minus, um, her email address) about custom fit condoms. What? Yeah, that's what I thought too, but this is pretty exciting.

i'm pretty much trying to email everyone i know about this, because someone must know someone-- partners, clients, patients, friends, (even your very own self!) to whom this information will be helpful. please send it on out to your people!
so the other day at our Planned Parenthood "all staff day" which is a day of presentations and lectures for all of us citywide staff.....anyway we had this woman who does public health research talk to us about CONDOMS. specifically, condoms that are CUSTOM FIT in like over 50 sizes.....ok, ok, just bear with me and please read, even if you aren't like totally stoked after reading that last sentence.
if you're not a person on whom condoms awkwardly fit (which is a lot of people, probably some of you), and if you're not a person who uses condoms, then you should learn that there is a lot of demand for better fitting condoms and it's a PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE (as well as a personal one!) because condoms that don't fit break and slip off more often ( i.e. possible infection transmission and pregnancy risk), and also they just don't feel so great. sex isn't as fun if a condom is cutting off your circulation or sagging unattractively, eh? So, this company (and apparently others will follow, but this is the first to be approved by the FDA) makes condoms in lots of sizes and you can order them off the internet......there's this cute chart that you print out and use for measurements (they even warn you to watch out for paper cuts!), and then you find your size and order your custom fit condoms! they are supposedly about the same price as at the grocery store, though i wouldn't know because i've gotten mine for free for years.
weird, huh? but, actually, i think, necessary and wonderful. i can't tell you how often we get complaints from patients who don't want to use condoms, or their partners refuse, and it's not all the time that this is just irresponsibility. sometimes, what's on the market doesn't work (incidentally, apparently the "snug" or "larger" condoms already on the market are actually just a little bit smaller or larger than standard sizes, which makes a difference to some, but still doesn't cut it for others, hence the 55- 70 sizes that this company offers. fun fact-- they apparently sell all sizes at a pretty high frequency!).

p.s . isn't it amazing that i managed to write that entire email without using the word "penis?" hey, don't forget you can also get a custom size condom for each of your dildos! now go have fun measuring your favorite penis or dildo.
