I was just reading some posts in the [livejournal.com profile] queerchoice community, and I found it really interesting. I wouldn't say that I chose to be attracted to other females, but at the same time I get tired of "we're born this way" as a reason not to discriminate against us. I mean, sure, I think a lot of it is innate, but I dislike the idea that I am a victim of my genetics, and everyone should take pity on me and let me marry and adopt with other poor saps such as myself. Hrm.

so I decided the reason I want to adopt and marry and not have my own children taken away just cause I'm gay is "because I'm human."

Yeah, the whole "pity me I'm making excuses for my existence" thing as a valid argument in identity politics annoys me. You choose your religion, you choose your politics, you choose your opinions-even if they seem inherent, they're *not* and yet, they are protected. In order for me to have basic rights, however, I have to claim non-involvement? Puh-leeze.
